2007-2008 APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION Welcome to the Marshall University Online Application Required Materials This online application for admission. Official transcripts of high school and/or college grades. A student who completes a non-Marshall college course while in high school or in summer school must submit an official college transcript to the admissions office prior to first registration. ACT or SAT I scores, see below. Application fee ($30 for West Virginia residents, $30 for Metro and nonresidents.) Transfer evaluation fee ($50 in lieu of the application fee.) Immunization record required of all new freshmen and transfer students, see below. High School Verification If you are a high school senior, you MUST ask your principal or counselor to forward your transcript with this application. SAT I & ACT The Higher Education Policy Commission requires all first-time freshmen to submit the American College Test (ACT), or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) scores except applicants who graduated from high school more than five years ago. (Applicants who graduated from high school more than five years ago and who lack test scores must pass special placement exams or required developmental English and mathematics courses before they can enroll in required courses in English composition and mathematics.) ACT or SAT I test scores are used in placing students in English and mathematics courses, for scholarship and loan applications, for academic counseling, and in part to meet NCAA athletic eligibility requirements. High school students should take either test by the end of the first semester of their senior year at the nearest test center. High school principals or counselors will have the necessary information and applications. Immunizations Applicants can provide an immunization record signed by a physician or an official copy of the permanent high school health record including a report of the required immunizations. Students must provide proof of immunization before or during the first semester of enrollment or they will not be permitted to enroll in subsequent terms. Exemptions may be granted for religious or medical reasons. Requests for exemptions should be made to the Office of Admissions. Students born prior to January 1, 1957 are exempt. Compliance with Military Selective Service Act State law provides that a male person who has attained the age of eighteen (18) years may not enroll in a state-supported institution of postsecondary education unless he is in compliance with the Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S. Code, Appendix 451, et. eq. and the amendments thereto). Also, a male person may not receive a loan, grant, scholarship, or other financial assistance for postsecondary higher education funded by state revenue, including federal funds or gifts and grants accepted by this state, or receive a student loan guaranteed by the state unless he is in compliance with the Military Selective Service Act. Additional Information All credentials submitted in support of an application for admission become the property of the university. They will not be returned to you or third parties. Prospective students are notified as soon as action is taken on their applications. Admission is granted for a specific term only. If you fail to register for the term for which you have been admitted, you may contact the admissions office and ask for an extension of up to one academic year. If you attend another college or university during that time, you must reapply. Admission to the university does not guarantee housing. You may submit an application for housing before or after your admission. All housing arrangements must be made through the Office of Residence Services, 127 Laidley Hall, (304) 696-6765 or toll-free: (800) 438-5391, or online. A housing reservation or a scholarship award or grant-in-aid is void unless you apply for and are admitted to the university. Any student admitted on the basis of false and/or incomplete credentials is subject to immediate dismissal from Marshall University. After you complete a screen, click the NEXT button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen. Before you are allowed to jump screens, we will inspect your data on the current screen for errors or inconsistencies. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct your answer(s). Otherwise, your data will be saved and you will proceed to the requested screen. We also allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be re-entered prior to submittal.
