The West Virginia Junior College, originally Capitol City Commercial College, was established on September 1, 1892. The College was originally established to train students in secretarial and business office skills and has undergone changes in location and curriculum through the years to keep up-to-date with the changing need of office skills training. Current program offerings include computer, legal, and medical majors in addition to the traditional business oriented programs.
West Virginia Junior College is a Junior College accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award diplomas and associates's degrees. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, 750 First Street, N.E., Suite 980, Washington, DC 20002-4241 (202-336-6780) is a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education. Its accreditation of degree granting institutions also is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
The West Virginia Junior College in Charleston is authorized to operate as a post-secondary education institution in the State of West Virginia in accordance with its permit to operate issued by the designated state agency.
It is our aim to train people in skills, attitudes, and work habits consistent with employment requirements in both the private economy and the public sector. We recognize that every student is an individual possessed with his or her unique aptitudes. Our objective is to assist the student in developing those aptitudes to a level of employability.
